CUPRA's Australian electric lineup has changed. The Born is currently sold out and unavailable to order, while the Tavascan is the brand's current battery-electric model in Australia.

Australian CUPRA documentation specifies Type 2 AC charging at up to 11 kW for both the Born and Tavascan. A home wallbox rated above 11 kW will not increase the AC charging rate of these vehicles.

Using the full 11 kW AC capability normally requires a suitable three-phase home installation. The charger should also be selected around the property's available electrical capacity, rooftop solar, daily driving and whether features such as load management or scheduled charging are useful.

Cupra EV charging FAQs

What charging connection do CUPRA electric vehicles use at home?

Australian specifications for the CUPRA Born and Tavascan list a Type 2 connection for AC charging. A tethered Type 2 wallbox includes its cable, while a socketed wallbox requires a suitable Type 2 charging cable.

How fast can I charge a CUPRA at home?

Australian specifications list a maximum AC charging rate of 11 kW for both the Born and Tavascan. Actual charging power depends on the wallbox, the home's electrical supply and the installation configuration.

Do I need a 22 kW charger for a CUPRA?

No for charging speed alone. The Australian Born and Tavascan are specified to accept up to 11 kW AC, so a 22 kW wallbox will not make either vehicle charge above 11 kW. A higher-capacity wallbox may still suit a household with other charging requirements if the electrical installation supports it.

Can I charge a CUPRA from single-phase power?

Yes. Charging from a suitable single-phase wallbox is possible, but it will not provide the full 11 kW AC rate available on an appropriate three-phase installation. The final charger rating should be set according to the home's supply and circuit design.

Can I charge my CUPRA from a regular power point?

Yes, when the vehicle is used with suitable Mode 2 portable charging equipment and the outlet is appropriate for EV charging. This is much slower than a dedicated wallbox. Avoid extension leads and power boards, and ask a licensed electrician to assess the outlet or home supply if you are unsure.
